Experience Montgomery in Community with Foundation Trustees and Leaders

Featuring an intimate conversation with Bryan Stevenson, Founder and Executive Director of the Equal Justice Initiative

Friday, September 20th – Sunday, September 22nd, 2024

The Edwin Gould Foundation, the Fund for the City of New York and NYU Steinhardt invite you to join us in Montgomery to experience the transformative impact of the Equal Justice Initiative founded by advocate, author, and visionary Bryan Stevenson. This visit to Montgomery will explore the power of Mr. Stevenson’s work and the creation of the highly acclaimed Legacy Sites including:

The Legacy Museum - a powerful, immersive experience featuring first-person historical accounts of the destructive violence of the slave trade, Jim Crow, racial terror lynchings, and mass incarceration.

The National Memorial for Peace and Justice - the nation’s first comprehensive memorial dedicated to the victims of terror lynching. The site uses sculpture, art and design to contextualize racial terror and its legacy today.

The Freedom Monument Sculpture Park - a 17-acre site along the river where tens of thousands of enslaved people were trafficked. Breathtaking art and original artifacts invite an immersive, interactive view into the lives of enslaved people.

The weekend will be the opportunity to share, learn and connect with scholars and community leaders including scheduled guest Bryan Stevenson.

The Summit will commence with a thought-provoking session led by Dr. Leslie M. Harris, distinguished scholar, historian, and professor of History and African American Studies at Northwestern University.
